Senator Hassan Joined EMILY’s List President Laphonza Butler, State Senator Becky Whitley, Medical Providers, and Reproductive Rights Advocates

Senator Maggie Hassan today discussed the threat of a nationwide abortion ban and laid out the stakes for a woman’s reproductive freedom in New Hampshire’s U.S. Senate race at Equality Health Center. The Senator was joined by EMILY’s List President Laphonza Butler and State Senator Becky Whitley, along with reproductive health care advocates and medical providers.

“We need to be clear eyed about what is next: anti-choice Republicans will not stop with overturning Roe v Wade,” said Senator Hassan. “The Republicans running against me would ignore the will of the majority of Granite Staters. They cheered the overturning of Roe, and their records make clear that they would vote to ban abortion nationwide.”

“We have heard Senator Mitch McConnell talk about how a national abortion ban is absolutely on the table in Washington if the Republicans were able to take over control of the Senate. Granite Staters — you can send a message to Mitch McConnell by sending Maggie Hassan back to the Senate,” said EMILY’s List President Laphonza Butler. “Senator Maggie Hassan is a champion for Granite Staters who will stand with you and your values and ensure that McConnell’s extreme anti-choice agenda has no legs.”

“Granite Staters want a leader in Washington who will fight for their reproductive freedom and who will trust women to make their own health care decisions,” said State Senator Becky Whitley. “That leader is Senator Hassan, who has consistently fought for women’s freedom and who will always stand up for the reproductive rights of Granite Staters.”

Senator Hassan’s long record of standing up for a woman’s fundamental rights is in stark contrast to those of her opponents, who would be yes votes for a Mitch McConnell nationwide abortion ban. Chuck Morse yesterday was endorsed by an extreme, anti-choice group that wants to ban abortion nationwide. The group endorsed Morse because of his anti-choice record that includes being the “key architect” of New Hampshire’s first abortion ban in modern history, which made no exceptions for rape, incest, or fatal fetal anomaly. Don Bolduc said that people should “rejoice” when Roe was overturned and said that New Hampshire’s abortion ban didn’t go far enough. And Kevin Smith has vowed to “end abortion once and for all” and promised to vote for any anti-choice legislation in the US Senate.
