NEW TV AD: Senator Hassan Talks About How Her Family’s Experience Drives Her to Fight for Granite Staters

Monday, August 15, 2022

Maggie for NH today launched “Care” – a new TV ad that highlights Senator Maggie Hassan’s work to try to ensure that people like her son Ben, who experiences a severe disability, and all Americans, can be fully included in their communities.

The ad features Audrey, a mother from Brentwood, whose daughter Lexi lives with Cornelia de Lange syndrome. Audrey’s family relies on home and community-based services to make sure that Lexi can stay at home while still receiving the help she needs throughout the day. In the ad, Senator Hassan discusses how Ben requires similar care, and how her experience as Ben’s mother drives her to fight for families across New Hampshire.

“Our son was born with cerebral palsy. The goal has always been for families like ours to raise a child who experiences severe disabilities just the way you would raise your other children,” said Senator Hassan in “Care.” “I’m working to build home and community-based care so that people with disabilities, people who are aging, can enjoy their family and their community.”

Watch “Care” here:

Senator Hassan first entered public service in large part to help ensure that those who experience disabilities, like her son Ben, would have the same kinds of opportunities that all parents want for their children. That is why she is pushing Congress to pass the Better Care Better Jobs Act – legislation that would provide long overdue investments to expand home care services, as well as lift up the home care workforce that provides these vital services. The Better Care Better Jobs Act would build on the more than $12.6 billion for home and community-based services that Senator Hassan worked to secure last year. The Senator is also working with Senator Susan Collins to pass their bipartisan legislation that would help address the shortage of direct care professionals in the workforce.
