Maggie for NH today announced “Relief” — the campaign’s first ad of 2022 — highlighting Senator Hassan’s push to suspend the gas tax for the rest of the year and provide Granite Staters much-needed relief at the pump. Senator Hassan has been a leader in working to bring down gas prices for Granite Staters, pushing the Biden administration to release more barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and taking on members of her own party to push for a gas tax holiday.
Watch “Relief” here:
“While her opponents parrot Big Oil and fight to keep gas taxes sky-high, Senator Hassan has been relentless in working to relieve the pain at the pump for Granite Staters,” said Maggie for NH Campaign Manager Aaron Jacobs. “Senator Hassan will take on anyone — from Mitch McConnell to members of her own party — to find solutions to lower costs for New Hampshire families.”
Senator Hassan’s opponents have fiercely opposed suspending the gas tax in New Hampshire, parroting Big Oil talking points instead of putting forward solutions to help bring down sky high gas prices. Chuck Morse, Kevin Smith, and Don Bolduc have all attacked Senator Hassan for leading the fight to lower gas prices — taking their cues from Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans who oppose Senator Hassan’s gas tax holiday. Two days after Mitch McConnell’s Republican Caucus blocked immediate passage of Senator Hassan’s proposal, New Hampshire Senate President Chuck Morse killed efforts to pass a state gas tax holiday — ensuring that “the pain at the pump will continue” for New Hampshire families.
In sharp contrast to the Republican primary candidates, Senator Hassan has been pushing for action to lower gas prices and costs. In addition to sponsoring a gas tax holiday and pushing the Biden administration to release more oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, she has called for the Federal Trade Commission to crack down on price gouging by Big Oil and gas companies — who are posting record profits while keeping prices sky high for New Hampshire consumers.
Narrator: Gas prices — we know the story. And while all of us are paying the price, one Senator is fighting to lower your costs.
WMUR: Senator Maggie Hassan is on a mission to try to ease the pain at the pump. She wants to suspend the federal gas tax for the rest of the year.
Senator Hassan: I am taking on members of my own party to push a gas tax holiday and I am pushing Joe Biden to release more of our oil reserves. That’s how we lower costs and get through these times.
